We are now accepting applications for the 2026 O’Neill Studio Free Labs to be led by Playwrights Theater artistic director Stephen Kennedy Murphy (Click Link for WIKI bio).
The Lab is a by-audition, no fee forum in which The O'Neill Studio develops its training programs. In this year's Lab, The Studio is adapting its Meisner and Monologue Tracks for the online platform.
In the Monologue Free Lab, actors will work on a monologue in a three individual and one group video sessions and provide video feedback on the experience.
For the Meisner Free Lab, over the course of three group sessions online, actors will be introduced to the widely misunderstood Repetition “game” as Mr. Meisner himself taught it to his classes, of which Murphy was part.
BENEFITS: Working on Nobel Prize-winning playwright Eugene O'Neill's plays gives the actor an anchor that once dropped, keeps the actor flexible, authentic and relaxed.
Flexible - In The Eugene O'Neill Studio, along with the depth O’Neill plays demand, flexibility and flow are emphasized to keep the actor pliable and emotionally agile.
Authentic - With AI on the rise, authenticity is at a premium. In our Studio, while working through the remote medium we help the actor deepen the connection between the author’s words and their own authentic artistic intimacy, even through the lens of technology.
Relaxed - We are increasingly on camera, making us increasingly self-conscious, especially when there's something at stake such as with online auditions and self-tapings. In our Studio, we focus on breathing techniques that level off the adrenaline anxiety that comes with camera work under pressure.
The O’Neill Studio has developed these tools so as to be able to drop in emotionally and stay connected through the demanding process of career-building.
The Meisner Lab will take place at a time to be scheduled by consensus after which actors will provide feedback on the experience.
If you are interested in applying to The Lab to help us refine our programs for the remote platform, 1. Send a self-taped introduction expressing your interest in the program to studio@eugeneoneill.net, stating why you think you're a good fit for it. 2. fill out the application form at Link.
